Day 2

Started the morning with prayer in the Main Hall at 6:30am. Had breakfast at 7:00 am and was out the door by 8:00am.

Breakfast at Temple 11. (I wish I had taken a picture of the dinner last night)

I made a special wish at Temple 9 (Horinji) as it is the temple known for curing leg ailments. I also got a good luck charm from that temple as well.

Temple 9 (Temple for leg ailments)

Today was a longer walk than yesterday and it especially felt long between Temple 10 (Kirihatachi) and Temple 11 (Fujidera). It was 9.6 km between the two temples. In total I walked 20.2 km today. However, I’m not as exhausted as yesterday. Although my feet are tired. 😉

Long walk between Temple 10 and 11. Todays walk was all on paved surfaces except for the last 100 meters where it was gravel.

Tonight I am staying in a small low cost “Ryokan” although there is nothing Japanese about this place except the family style bath and heated toilet seat. Can’t complain. For ¥3,800 it’s a bargain.

Meals are not included, so combini (convenience store) dinner of onigiri (rice balls) and green tea for me.

Day 1

Started on Pilgrimage today.

Got up early this morning and checked out of the hotel at 7am… only to find out that the first train was at 8:45am on a Saturday. So ended up taking a taxi to the first temple (Ryozeji). I would have waited for the train, but I needed to get to temple 7 (Jurakuji) before 5 pm, as I am staying at the temple tonight

At temple 1 (Ryozenji) I got my kit together for the pilgrimage. And then headed for Temple 2 (Gorakuji).

I’d write more… but I am exhausted and need to sleep.

Pilgrim gear.

Tokushima

This morning saw me at an acupuncture appointment for my sprained ankle. (Sprained 2 weeks before my trip). The treatment was painful but good. The acupuncturist then taped up my ankle. (No pictures… needles freak me out).

I then headed out for Tokushima in the afternoon. 2 Shinkansen and a bus ride later I arrived in Tokushima after 9pm (Trying to get a hotel under ¥10,000 was impossible, so a room at the JR train station hotel it is.)

Obligatory train staples. (One of these things is not like the other.)

Before you ask, no, Brad Pitt and Hiroyuki Sanada were not on the train with me… or at least they didn’t walk through my train carriage.
