Life at a Tortoise Pace
I spent today walking around Shibuya. Some things have changed since I was last here 8 years ago, but on the whole it was pretty much the same.

Arrived at Narita Airport at 4 pm… but with quarantine, immigration, customs and trying to figure out how to get the Japanese SIM card to work on my phone (best to make sure SIM is not locked by your phone provider before you leave the country) I finally left Narita and heading to Tokyo at 6:48pm.

I start my adventure today. Started the morning with a bumpy flight on a float plane (glad I didn’t have breakfast first). Now waiting for my flight to Japan.

One month from today I will be on my way to…

On the 15th I went to the exhibit “Crossroads: Grand National Fibre Art Exhibition” at the VAC Main Gallery with some friends. The exhibit had many different types of fibre art techniques and artists creating a piece with the theme “Crossroads” . The works were impressive and if you live in Victoria, I hope you had a chance to see it.
The exhibit will tour across Canada. Victoria was the only presentation of this exhibit in British Columbia.
Sorry for the late positing on this.

So this week, I was hoping to have had a photo of the finished cardigan I’ve been making for my dad. Well it is not to be. I had measured the back and the sleeves, but when I put it together the weight of it made it longer. The whole sweater weighs 2lbs (0.91kg)!
There is also the fact that my father has lost some weight and shrunk…So un-stitching the sweater. On the plus side – I will have more yarn to make another project.
In other news, this weekend it the Times Colonist Book Sales! My favourite event put on my the Times Colonist. I am looking forward to browsing the many used books for literary treasure! Link to the book sale below.
On Saturday (23 April), I went to the Royal BC Museum to learn about Sikh Heritage Month. The museum had a special learning event form 11:00am to 4:00pm.
There were videos, guest speakers, and live music as well as different exhibits around Clifford Hall. It was informative and nice to be able to be back in a public space.

Last October, my mother and I went on one of our adventures together. We decided that we wanted to find out about the Malahat Skywalk which opened earlier in 2021.
The day started out overcast and raining, but had cleared up around 11am and turned out to be a beautiful day. The Skywalk wasn’t too challenging to do as it is a circular wooden slope all the way to the top. The top there was a view of Mill Bay and a net that one can walk on and see all the way down. There is also a circular slide which runs down the center of the structure.
The reason I mention both the net and the slide is because it took courage for me in my 40s to step on the net and to go down the slide. My mother, on the other hand, who is in her late 70s was excited to try all of it. I think I need to take a page out of her book of life.

I haven’t written in a while. I had stopped as I was trying to figure out my position in the place I work. I am now in a different department, which, to be honest, I enjoy a lot more. However, I was under a lot of stress while it was being worked out.
It has taken me a while to get back to this because I had gained a lot of weight while I was under stress. I then went through a bit of depression because of the weight and didn’t feel comfortable in my own body.
I have finally come to accept myself and am ready to start posting again.
